Dan Butler, originally from Bletchley, currently based in Bedford (UK), reflects on how his early clubbing experiences in the 90’s shaped his deep passion for the sounds that felt a bit more emotional and, perhaps, other-worldly. He acknowledges the influence of Detroit house and techno but emphasises the importance of creating a unique sound rather than imitating others.
In his own words “I'm no gear junkie, or tech-nerd, I'm really not. I work in IT and people often say I'm not your typical IT guy! I play around with ideas a lot in the studio, often arriving at happy accidents that make the final cut. It's as much about the machines controlling me as me controlling the machines, and I don't mind admitting that.
My younger listening years were spent gorging on a lot of goth and industrial music, which you often heard less about from other techno producers through the 90s and 00s, something I always felt gave me a slightly different edge to my evolution and ultimately my production style.
Iceman Records is pleased to launch it's first release with such a masterly artist.
