“The Buddy City EP” is the debut release from Heatsync Records, an offshoot of New Haven’s vinyl-only techno party HEATSYNC. Featuring four heaters from local producers Antoni Maiovvi, Jentlemen, 7Ways, and Townwide Tyler, the EP embodies the legendary vibes that permeate their regular nights at Cafe Nine. From spooked-out, hypnotic techno to slow-burning raw acid, “Buddy City EP” is ideal for foggy, late night dance floor disembodiment.

The EP opens with Antoni Maiovvi’s minimalist “Semaphore,” weaving evolving synth lines with dubbed out bass n’ 808—a modernist take on moody techno. Townwide Tyler’s “Swamp Yankee” then sends us into space with deep pads and futurist textures, forming a perfect blend of techno and bass music. Jentlemen’s “Surface Itch” guides us into the strobe via a dark exploration of sound with intertwining acid lines, phased hats, and freaked out percussion lines. 7Ways “Ancient Mystic Order” closes the record and drops the tempo into a heavy New Beat-esque acid groove, returning us to the forest where all the freaks are gathered.
