Libra Rising

Creating dark and soothing electronic pop drawing on new wave, shoegaze, and kosmische musik influences, Libra Rising blends cascading rhythms and textures with the debut album Every New Moon. Visions of celestial balance and pastoral beauty guided the creation of the album that Montreal-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Honeywell wrote and produced. Combining minimal compositions, hypnotic rhythms, complex arrangements, and Honeywell’s subtle vocals, Libra Rising creates therapeutic pop soundscapes with Every New Moon.

Honeywell began sharing the music he was making with an electric guitar, a Yamaha CS-5 synthesizer, and a 4-track tape machine in 2019 at ambient music events and gallery spaces in Montreal. Drawing heavily from his background as a visual artist, Honeywell set his music to short films, and began developing a visual world to accompany his music. Honeywell’s work grew into an exploration of recording processes and instruments; as Honeywell branched out to incorporate various vintage synthesizers and drum machines in his compositions, his music moved from the ambient sphere into the pop realm, ultimately honouring both sensibilities with the first full-length album from Libra Rising, Every New Moon.
